"Weaving History into Fabric"

For over 400 years, the Dui Nam Cao silk weaving village in Thai Binh has been renowned for its exquisite, handwoven silk fabrics that reflect rich cultural heritage. Unlike modern industrial silk production, each piece of fabric here is meticulously crafted by artisans, using traditional manual techniques and natural dyes. By the 2000s, economic challenges led the village to the brink of decline, with only a few households continuing the craft. However, a revival began with the formation of the Dui Nam Cao Weaving Cooperative, bringing new life to the village and restoring its reputation for high-quality, culturally rich silk products.

Our journey began years ago, traversing the country, visiting countless factories and silk villages, connecting with the artisans who pour their hearts into Vietnamese silk. Witnessing the challenges facing this traditional industry, we dedicated ourselves to understanding and supporting these skilled craftspeople. Through extensive research, careful selection, and even time spent at the loom ourselves, we've grown confident in the enduring value of handcrafted silk and inspired by the artisans' unwavering dedication to their craft. Together, we're working to preserve and grow the legacy of Vietnamese silk.

Silkworm Rearing (Sericulture)
SilkWorms are fed only mulberry leaves and carefully raised in a controlled environment
Cocoon Harvesting
Once the silkworms have spun their cocoons, the cocoons are harvested. It's crucial to harvest them before the moth emerges, as this would break the silk threads.
Silk Reeling
The cocoons are then softened in hot water to loosen the sericin, a natural gum that holds the silk fibers together. The silk filaments from several cocoons are then carefully unwound and combined to create a single silk thread
Throwing and Doubling
The reeled silk threads are then twisted together to create stronger and more uniform yarns.
